Dear Visitor,
Welcome!
The Cameroon Bioscience Society (CBS) is a scientific, apolitical and non-profit-making organisation serving as the rallying force and umbrella organisation of all researchers working in the life-sciences and life-technologies in Cameroon and collaborating foreign institutions. Such life science areas include medicine and biomedicine, agriculture, ecology and biodiversity, bio-conservation, biochemistry, pharmacology, microbiology, animal biology, plant biology, medical laboratory sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, bioengineering, etc. Founded on the aegis of UNESCO, the organisation came to life in 1988, with its very first conference held in 1991 in Ngaoundéré under its Founding President, the late Prof. Marc BOPELET. The CBS's primary mission is to bring together life science researchers, government authorities and members of the private sector in Cameroon and elsewhere for "face-to-face" exchanges through its Annual Conference followed by the publication of its meeting abstracts and proceedings in its own official journal, the Cameroon Journal of Biological and Biochemical Sciences (CJBBS). Such face-to-face meetings permit scientists to meet physically and know each other better, to network and to celebrate their scientific achievements. It may be good to note that in recent times, the CBS annual conferences have brought together between 300 participants in far-away locations (e.g. in Maroua in 2019) and 480 (in Buea in 2017, dubbed the conference of new directions, which was the largest number in the history of the CBS conferences).

Under the stewardship of our Head of State, President Paul Biya, our country is currently executing a plan of economic emergence by 2035 through the implementation and monitoring of sustainable development goals, including an import substitution policy, which will in turn be based on scientific and technological innovations. We seek to produce more of what we consume and import less of it. Achieving this lofty goal will depend on the positive contribution of every Cameroonian and therefore, every Cameroonian Bioscientist through the many magnificent works we do on a daily basis in our laboratories. A key and essential role will be played by our international collaborators and our Diaspora.

In addition to a steady and highly educated youthful workforce, our country is blessed with a large repertoire of bio-resources: from a wide variety of popular crops, medicinal plants and other forest products, marine products, inland lake and river resources, animal varieties, microbial varieties, huge areas of rain forest and savanna, etc. Research based on these resources can lead to their transformation to other variety of products, on improvement of quality and on producing some of them at a reduced cost, helping to reduce our reliance on imports.

Dear visitor, we are therefore, very glad that you have discovered us here and do hope that you will join or assist us in one way or the other, so that collectively, we can make a rich contribution toward the development of our Nation, Cameroon, the African sub-region and of the world at large.

Long live the Cameroon Bioscience Society
Long live the Republic of Cameroon

Professor Fidelis Cho-Ngwa
